How to install Windows 7/XP on Asus K53 Series K53SM-SX010D laptop with FreeDOS ?

How to install Windows 7 on FreeDOS Asus K53 Series K53SM-SX010D laptop ? was the only question in my mind when I bought this laptop from Flipkart with out any OS but FreeDos.This post will help you find your solution to your trouble while installing any operating system like Windows Xp, Windows 7 or even Ubuntu free linux.

My heartbeats raised when I pressed F2,F12 keys and BIOS didn't showed up but this menu...

"MENU 1 - Load FreeDOS with EMM386, no EMS (most UMBs), max RAM free"
"MENU 2 - Load FreeDOS with EMM386+EMS and SHARE"
"MENU 3 - Load FreeDOS including HIMEM XMS-memory driver"

So I restarted my laptop again and opt for Delete button but it didn't work too. Finally I tried ESC and it  "actually worked" :)

If you have bought this laptop without any OS other than FreeDos then reboot your system as as soon as you hit power button to start your system then just hit ESC button like you do in other laptops with F2 or F12.

Then BIOS menu should appear and you can then change the boot drive sequence to get your operating system installed.

Rest you can do... but if you have more queries you can ask :)
(I am sure this solution should work on any laptop which comes without operating system but has FreeDOS installed on it)

  1. I am getting this laptop tomorrow. I wanna know should I go for Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit? I am a fan of 32 bit versions because you never have to worry about whether you should install 32 or 64 bit drivers and you never get BSODs etc. Plus, I DONT need 4gb of RAM. 2gb works for me which means 32bit should be my choice. Which version of Windows did you install? Thanks.

    1. Yes your choice of 32bit os is better as it have certain differences.
32 bit OS can play 16bit apps too but 64bit os can not.
32 bit os has maximum 4 gb ram support so your requirement is achieved of 2 gb there.
you can installed unsigned drivers on 32bit operating system.
So according to current scenario of availability of software you 32bit os is better.
And Yes I have installed 32Bit OS my my machine .

  3. I tried installing an OS for the laptop through a pen drive but it didn't work. Something about drivers missing... Tried with a disc too but everytime there will be an error message saying "ERROR 0X-some bunch of numbers...".. I don't know how to specify the issue appropriately but all I can say is that theres an issue when installing the OS.

    1. It depends on your requirement of laptop.
Please give me more details what features you want.

If I am not sure you want most new features in laptop but with reasonable price tag ?
Features like Processor,Graphic hardware ,memory and screen size.

Current market gives many brands with cheap price...(Rs 25000/- to Rs 40000/-)

You can go for dell vostro 2520 it has good configs.
      (Procesor : i3, 2.2 GHz
      2GB RAM,
      500 GB Hard Disk,
      Linux os, 1 MP Camera)
